This process can often take longer than the shop itself took as the company will be looking for explanations and details so they can determine whether you received good customer service according to their standards. You will need to have a great memory if you want to be a successful mystery shopper. There are many things you will need to notice and remember (because you can't write them down). For example, you will have to remember the clerk's name, their greeting, what he or she was wearing and even the exact time that you were acknowledged once you entered the store.
Some of the other things that you may need to make note of and include in your report are things like the condition of the store (was everything clean and well-stocked) and did the cashier ask you if you found everything you were looking for, and/or did they attempt to upsell additional items to you, etc. You probably will need to note staffing levels as well. For example, were there many people waiting in line; were there enough staff members on the floor to help customers; how long did it take for someone to approach you and ask you if you needed any help?As you can see, there are quite a lot of customer service expectations for your typical retail shop and it is your job as the mystery shopper to test for how well that customer service is being delivered.
